City Year

Do you want to make a difference in your community? Then join young heroes! Young Heroes is looking for middle school students 5th to 8th grade who want to:

  • make a difference
  • serve the community
  • make a commitment
  • develop compassion through service
  • have fun

The City Year Young Heroes program is a service-learning and leadership development program for middle school students. City Year corps members need your help teaching a group of young adolescents how to make a difference in the community and take action for positive social change

What will I do?
The Young Heroes do service projects such as painting murals, building playgrounds and planting community gardens.

How do I apply?
You need to send a completed application form and letter of recommendation to the City Year Young Heroes offices. For the application, you need to answer who your hero is and why, as well as information about any hobbies, interests, activities and volunteer experience. The application will need to be signed by your parent or guardian. Applications are due by December. For more information, call 206.219.5010.

1. When does it start?

2. Where are they located?

Young Heroes is also a chance to meet new friends and different people. If you are over 14 years-old but interested in this type of opportunity, contact the YMCA, your local community center, your school counselor and/or United Way to find out what programs you are eligible for.

If you are interested in this program, you can
apply to be a CityYear corps member.

If you also know of a younger person who
is a good candidate for this program,
let them know about it! It's an opportunity
for both you and them to make a difference
in our community.
