Obtaining my records

1. What if information in my records is wrong?
It is possible to change your records if information is inaccurate. You have a right to request a hearing to challenge the contents of the records. If the request is denied, you have a right to include a statement with your records stating why you think the information is incorrect.

2. What is considered written consent from me?
When you grant permission for someone to gain access to a copy of your records, you must put in writing the specific records to be released, the reason for the release and to whom you are giving permission to receive the records. You must also sign the request.

3. What other information is in my school records?
Disciplinary actions for school violations are included in school records.

4. What exceptions are there to the Privacy Act protections?
Your records can be released without your prior consent in the case of: emergency situations that threaten the safety of you or other students, when a school receives a court order to release the information, or when records are needed for law enforcement purposes.
