SAT/ACT tests

1. What is the difference between the SAT and ACT?
They test for slightly different skills. The SAT measures general skills in math and the english language such as reading and vocabulary. The ACT tests for four subjects (reading, math, english and science) and the questions are aligned more with high school curriculum requirements.

2. Is it possible to fail the test?
No. A higher score is certainly better but your results will measure differently with each college or university you apply to. For example, one school may see a total score of 1000 as adequate for acceptance, yet another school's admissions office may not.

3. How can I practice for them?
There are online resources available at www.collegeboard.com and www.act.org. There are also books and classes available on how to take these tests and how to better prepare yourself for them.

4. Can I take the test again if my score is low?
Yes. You can take both tests or the same test over again. Colleges and universities will usually consider the highest score of the two. Many high school students take one test in their junior year and then again in the fall of their senior year.
