Obtaining my records
Transcript records document the classes you have taken and what
grades you received. It is not unusual to be asked for copies of
your transcripts when applying for scholarships or for enrollment
in a school program.
Official
Transcripts
A transcript is official if it has the authorizing
signature and the official seal of the issuing school AND is sent
directly by the school or sealed in a school envelope and mailed
or delivered by you. Opened envelopes are no longer official. Find
out if you need to obtain an official transcript or if just a copy
of it is okay.
High
School Transcripts
In most cases, you can mail or fax a letter to the high school with
information such as, your name (and any name changes), dates of
attendence and address. It is best to get the most complete transcript
by requesting a "final transcript" which should show records
up to your highest grade completed.
College
Transcripts
You will need to contact each college or secondary school you have
attended. Each school has its own policy on how to request a copy
but you have access to your own transcript and records at any time.
Privacy
Policy
Education records are protected by law and generally, your records
can not be released to anyone without your permission. Whether the
information is stored on paper or electronically, the Federal Education
Records and Privacy Act requires any institution to keep records
confidential until consent of the student is given to whoever seeks
the information.
