Personal Approach

Recruiters go through hundreds and thousands of resumes so having a personal approach to your job search practices can help you stand out among the other candidates.

Do your research
Find out about the employer. Visit their website and see what their corporate philosophy or mission statement is. Request a copy of a flyer or brochure they give out and you can get an idea of the image they are trying to market themselves as. Don't be afraid to call or email the recruiter if you have questions ahead of time.

Follow-up
After an interview, send a thank-you note to anyone involved in your interview. Thank them for taking time to interview you and let them know how you look forward to answering any additional questions they may have and hearing from them. It's best to send a thank-you note as soon as the interview is over. More than likely, they will make a decision within a few days so sending a card in the mail when you get home or the day after the interview will ensure they get the note before making a hiring decision.

You want to look good! Have clean and trimmed fingernails, avoid gum or candy in your mouth, wear clean shoes and empty your pockets of loose change and any tinkling objects.

1. Any helpful hints when meeting employers?

2. When should I call?

Have a connection?

If you know of someone working with or somehow connected to a potential employer, ask them what it's like to work there. They can give you insight into what the people and working environment are like.
