Mentoring
Mentoring
programs provide unique opportunties of one-on-one guidance or assistance.
You may consider being a mentor, as well as getting a mentor.
Mentor
responsibilities
There are all kinds
of programs which offer to match you with mentors or with others
looking to be mentored. An example
is Big Brothers, Big Sisters which matches volunteer adults in the
community with youth who are looking for someone they can trust
and talk to. A mentor can be someone who meets with you on a consistent
basis to help you with school or it can be someone who helps give
advice and just listens to you about school, home, work and relationships.
Need
a mentor?
If you are interested
in being matched with a mentor, go through an established program
that screens its applicants and works with you to ensure the match
is successful. You don't want to be a part of a program that doesn't
take time to make sure both you and your mentor are working well
together and making the most of your match.
Want
to be a mentor?
You
may not realize it but you probably have a lot to give to a younger
person. You have your own life experiences to reflect on and realistic
views on what challenges youth face today. If you are interested
in taking a little time to help someone else, check into a few programs
that help youth and see what programs you feel most comfortable
with being a part of. |
