A place to live
Do
you know?
- One
case study found almost 40% of homeless individuals are former
foster care youth.
Help
in Washington State
Did you know
Washington State can now use up to 30% of its federal independent
living dollars to provide room and board services to youth who have
left foster care and are between 18-21 years-old?
That
means, there is specific funding devoted to helping transitioning
youth like you find a place to live. Financial
assistance is available through the YMCA Independent Living Program
for expenses such as: rent, rental deposits, utility deposits, dorm
rent and credit check fees. You
will also receive case management and support services that are
designed to assist you in achieving self-sufficiency.
Eligibility requirements are:
- You
are at least 18 years-old and not yet 21.
- You
have transitioned from a DCFS supervised placement (foster, group
or kinship care) at age 18.
- You
are not in foster care at the time of any payment.
- You
have submitted an application and statement of need, approved
by your Independent Living case manager.
- You
participate directly in developing the service plan and accept
personal responsibility for achieving independence.
Check
